Hope everybody’s Thursdays are off to a FANTASTIC start! Here is this week’s edition of Three Thought Thursday.
1a. “We Not Me.”
It’s ALL about the team. It doesn’t matter if you are on the field, on the court, or in the office: No one man is bigger than the Team. As we stay connected through the adversity, we learn to fight through tight hamstrings, tight deadlines, lopsided losses, and long hours, not only for ourselves, but for those who depend on us (inside and outside of work). The LA Rams have adopted this slogan for the 2018 NFL season and I encourage all of you to do the same!
1b. “To communicate is to join and to attack is to separate.”
This says a lot about the importance of teamwork and gives great insight into how to build strong relationships, both professionally and personally. When we engage in empathic communication, we give others the opportunity to be heard and truly understood. When we attack, we damage the quality of our teams/relationships and this leads to an increase in the likelihood of future unhealthy conflict. Keep this in mind as you draft your next e-mail, plan for your next meeting, or navigate through conflict with a co-worker or spouse.
2. “Forgiveness is the economy of the heart.”
Those who forgive enjoy better physical health and suffer less from anxiety and depression. Most of us want to feel good, and forgiveness gives us the opportunity to experience this. I once heard that holding a grudge does not make you strong, it makes you bitter. Forgiveness does not make you weak, but rather, it sets you free!
3. “Hold your grief with tenderness, your mistakes with forgiveness, and your frustration with patience. Honor the chips and cracks of your experience.”
We are all working towards something in hope of bettering our lives. While on this journey, we are sure to encounter slip-ups and setbacks. What’s important is how we respond to these setbacks. All challenges serve as experiences that help us grow. Once we realize that all things happen FOR us and not TO us, the ebb and flow of life becomes MUCH easier to navigate through. As Chance the Rapper once said, “I Turn all my L’s into Lessons.”
Enjoy your Thursday!
