WONDERFUL Morning Everybody!
Here are your 3 golden nuggets for the week:
- “The opposite of more is enough.” – William Paul Young
When we neglect the present and focus on more, more, more, & me, me, me, we ban ourselves from ever being fully satisfied. In fact, these selfish and self-centered focus areas typically leaves us feeling empty, lonely, and depressed. I learned this the hard way. At a point when I was the most materially and financially successful I had ever been, I was miserable, alone, and dejected. It wasn’t until I shifted my focus to helping others, and cultivating an “enough” mentality that I found solid ground. Focusing on enough is the essence of gratitude. As we head into the holiday season, rather than chasing after more, let’s focus on enough. Lets cultivate gratitude for that which is right in front of our eyes: Family. Friends. Good Times. Love. Let’s appreciate all that we have. You have enough. You do enough. You are enough!
- “The way you treat yourself is ultimately the way you treat those you love!” – Dr. Peter Attia
Read that one more time! I he ard this quote late last night and it immediately resonated with me! Personally, I can be very hard on myself, expecting maximal effort, the absolute best, and perfect results in all endeavors. However, if left unchecked, these expectations can manifest into negative self-talk, constant frustration, and an overall dissatisfaction with life. What’s more is we tend to hold similar expectations for those we love, and engage in similar negative emotions if they fail to meet our expectations. If we lack self-trust and treat ourselves poorly, we unconsciously distrust and treat those we love poorly. So during this holiday season, practice self-care. Engage in positive self-talk. Treat yourself to a massage or a nice meal. The results of these practices will positively impact how you treat others. Remember, we cannot truly love anybody else in this world until we learn how to love ourselves!
- “Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe
That’s all and that’s it! This is the recipe for greatness. Let this serve as a reminder that you cannot change the past or where you find yourself currently. You are where you are. Moreover, it has been said “the death of contentment is comparison.” Taking inspiration from others can be a positive experience, but using what you have means maintaining an inward focus on making the best use of your own time, skills, and potential. Last but not least, trust that if action is taken, results will follow. Focus only on what you can control, and leave the rest up to your Higher Power!
With Gratitude,
Rob
