GREAT Morning Everybody!
Here are your 3 golden nuggets for the week!
- “We have a tendency to experience NOT reality; we have a tendency to experience our thinking ABOUT reality.” – Michael Bernard
I once received an e-mail from a Partner that read, “Come by my office. Need to talk.” Immediately, my body went into fight or flight mode. My adrenaline increased, heart rate skyrocketed, and mind raced a thousand miles an hour in its attempt to decipher what the Partner wanted to “talk” about. Within seconds, my thoughts turned dark. “Did I do something wrong? Does he want to fire me? If I get fired, where will I work at next? If I leave, do I have to give back my ergonomic chair?!” Turns out, he wanted to talk about where we were going for lunch! See, the reality of the situation was the Partner simply wanted to discuss lunch plans, but my thoughts about reality spun the entire situation into a very dark, destructive, life-or-death event. The truth is that our thoughts determine the reality we live in. The next time you are shaken by a negative thought, pause. By not immediately reacting to every thought that pops into your head, you can get really good at creating space between reality, and your thoughts about reality! This helps to increase your energy, focus, overall well-being!
- “Lack of forgiveness is one of the highest forms of self-abuse.” – Michael Bernard
I once heard somebody say that holding onto resentment is like drinking poison and hoping it will kill the other person. Holding onto a grudge does not make us strong; it makes us bitter and contributes to increased stress, anxiety, and a shorter life span! We forgive so that we can release the resentment and anger that builds up within ourselves. Those who forgive enjoy better physical health and suffer less from anxiety and depression. Whom have you been unable to forgive? Are you ready to let go? By releasing the past, you are able to cultivate a happier, more enjoyable present!
- “The past doesn’t exist anymore, and it never will ever again.” – Humble the Poet
Rely on your missteps and failures to guide you on this adventure of life. Anything you’ve messed up in the past can be chalked up to a life lesson and experience. Success is great, but it is a horrible teacher. Our greatest teachers are fear, failure, and loss. Embrace these teachers and keep moving forward. You are a piece of art in progress, constantly improving every day. Seek experiences in the world, make mistakes, and allow them to shape the person you are. Celebrate the person you’re becoming. You are one in 100 billion humans to have ever existed. Every scar, mistake, achievement and tear makes up your unique composition. Don’t waste this amazing human experience on a time and place you’re never going to revisit. Be present, move forward, and let go of everything else.
Enjoy what comes of today!
With Gratitude,
Rob
