GREAT Morning Everybody!
“Be married to your effort and divorced of the outcome.” – Unknown
Last weekend, I had the opportunity to participate in a Yoga Intensive Training. This consisted of 16+ hours of straight yoga over 2 days, followed by a 5-minute audition to teach for the Yoga Studio. This audition took place on the second day. As one would imagine, all 30 of us were mentally drained at the end of each day from attempting to absorb loads of new information.
As I prepared for the audition, I found myself getting nervous. What if I panic and can’t get my words out? What if I don’t have the high energy required for a successful audition? What if I fail? As these self-critical thoughts flooded my mental, I was reminded of a quote one of the Instructors laid on us during the weekend. “Be married to your effort and divorced from the outcome.”
Oftentimes in life, we are so obsessed with the final result, the destination, the outcome – that we forget to enjoy the process. Our self-destructive obsession with a future event or outcome is usually the same obsession that holds us back from success! We want something so bad so when our emotions are left unchecked, we have a tendency to get in our OWN way!
Let this serve as a reminder to be YOUR best. Whether it be a CPA test, new client proposal, interview, or meeting the spouse’s parents for the first time – put forth YOUR best effort. Be authentic. Be yourself. Nothing more. Nothing less. Then divorce yourself from the outcome with the knowing that you put your best foot forward.
Let go. Trust that everything that is meant for you will arrive eventually. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. “The place where you are right now, God circled on a map for you.”
Enjoy what comes of today!
