PERFECT Morning Everybody!
“He who cannot rest, cannot work; he who cannot let go, cannot hold on.” – Harry Emerson Fosdick
As I was speaking with a mentor last week at an event, he imparted some wisdom on me that my mind has been constantly replaying since the conversation. He implored me to dream big and work hard at making those dreams a reality, but once I complete all of the work required, detach from the outcome.
Former President Barack Obama implemented an intriguing custom on election days: he played basketball. From his first primary until the day he was elected President, he stepped away from his home and office on nearly every Election Day to ball out on the court with his friends. He won the election on every day he played basketball.
A powerful metaphysical principle is operating behind the scenes of Obama’s victories: launch and release. During the launch phase, you do everything in your power to bring your project or idea to life. You set goals, network like crazy, take action, and accept responsibility for creating your desired results. This is an active, hands-on approach. Then, when you have done everything you can, it is time to release. You let go, knowing you have done your part trusting the Universe to do its part. You invite and accept the presence of a Higher Power that has the wisdom and wherewithal to accomplish the pieces of your project you cannot control. You also trust that if this project is in your best interest and the best interests of those involved, it will soar. If it is not in everyone’s highest good, you must be willing to let it go and make space for something better.
Obama campaigned diligently and when Election Day came, he let go. He did not keep pushing or sit at home anxiously awaiting the results. He was playing the Higher Game.
Many of us are so used to launching that we forget to release, myself included! Yet letting go might be just the action required to win.
Enjoy what comes of today!
