AMAZING Morning Everybody!
Today’s message is centered around our interactions with complete strangers and the impact those seemingly meaningless interactions might have with both parties.
The other day, I was hurriedly getting ready for work at the local 24 Hour Fitness when a fellow gym member came up to me in the locker room and asked me if I “do yoga”. I was doing yoga poses as a part of my workout and he must’ve seen me perform some of the poses, I thought. I told him yes, and he asked me how I got started. The whole conversation lasted maybe 10 minutes and I touched on how yoga has pulled me out of some pretty rough places and has taught me how to be more positive, grateful, and empathetic. I shared with him my daily routine of writing down 3 things I am grateful for before reaching for my phone, as soon as I wake up. Nothing more, nothing less. After our conversation, we casually said goodbye and went along with the rest of our day.
3 days later, after coming home post 10pm from a long day at the office, I go and check the mail and I receive a card from this same man! In the card, he expressed how grateful he was that our paths crossed and that he spent a majority of the previous morning reading previous blogs I posted on my website. He mentioned how my suggestion to send “gratitude notes” out to others on a daily basis really resonated with him and that he recognized the importance of it too, but admitted that over the years, he hasn’t always been consistent on following through with these notes. He ended the card by telling me he only found it appropriate to send his first note of gratitude to me, thanking me for our short, but very impactful interaction with one another.
This truly warmed my heart! On the surface, this was just another conversation with a cool dude at the gym. But as we dig deeper, the positivity I was feeling that morning was quite literally present during our entire conversation. This man picked up on that positive energy and compassionately decided to run with it, by injecting more positivity into other human beings that he interacts with on a daily basis! On top of that, the note he sent me created 7,000 tons of positivity in my life which subsequently lead to me spreading additional positivity out into the world that next day! This positivity cycle has the capability to develop TONS of momentum, destroying every ounce of negativity in its path!
Point, blank, period: we NEVER know the type of impact a simple 10-minute conversation might have on somebody. This is a reminder to slow down, and take time to connect with others. The conversation you have with that complete stranger while waiting in line for your coffee in the morning could be the same conversation that that complete stranger needed to put life back in perspective after going through a rough couple of months. You just never know. That is what life is all about. Be the light YOU wish to see in this world.
Have a fantastic weekend!
